Why Montessori?

One of the ways Montessori education differs from traditional schooling is through its use of three-year learning cycles. Rather than moving children to a new classroom and teacher every year, students stay with the same teacher and peer group over a three-year period. This structure provides stability and allows teachers to deeply understand each child’s strengths, needs, and learning style over time.

Within these mixed-age classrooms, younger children learn by observing older peers, while older students reinforce their own understanding by mentoring and leading. Children grow in confidence as they move from newcomers to experienced leaders within the same environment. These cycles support academic growth, social development, and a strong sense of community — benefiting each child while strengthening the classroom as a whole.

In addition to strong academic learning, Montessori education intentionally supports:

  • Problem-solving and critical thinking
  • Conflict resolution and communication
  • Responsibility to self, others, and the environment
  • Leadership and collaboration
  • Focus, perseverance, and self-discipline

These skills are woven into daily classroom life, not just taught as an add-on.

Children at Creative Montessori School learn the same things that children in a traditional school do, plus practical knowledge such as conflict resolution, social responsibility, and environmental stewardship. It is how they learn and how they feel about learning that is quite different and truly valuable.

Montessori education is centered on the child, on who they are, how they learn, and what motivates them. Dr. Maria Montessori developed her approach through careful observation, noticing how children naturally explore their environment, interact with others, and take pride in mastering new skills. She believed that children are born eager to learn and that joy, curiosity, and independence are powerful drivers of growth.

At CMS, our Montessori-trained teachers work with these natural instincts rather than against them. Through specialized training, thoughtfully designed materials, and a whole-child curriculum, teachers guide each student based on close observation. This allows children to move at their own pace, build confidence, and experience the satisfaction that comes with real understanding and accomplishment.

The classroom environment plays an important role in this process. Montessori classrooms are intentionally prepared with beautiful, hands-on materials that are child-sized and self-correcting. These spaces invite curiosity, encourage focus, and support independence — helping children develop self-control, confidence, and a love of learning through meaningful, independent work.

The best way to understand Montessori is to experience it. We invite families to visit our campus, observe classrooms, and ask questions.
