Announcing Our Next Executive Director

After a thoughtful search process, the Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Thomas Goldsmith has been selected as the next Executive Director of Creative Montessori School.

Thomas brings more than two decades of experience in independent school education, most recently serving as Director of Admissions at The Altamont School, where he has also been a member of the Senior Leadership Team, Administrative Team, and Student Support Team. Throughout his career, he has served not only as an administrator but also as a classroom teacher, student advisor, and coach. These experiences have given him a deep appreciation for the daily life of a school and the relationships that sustain it.

Thomas’s connection to CMS runs deeper than professional admiration. As a former CMS parent, he and his family chose Montessori education because of our commitment to independence, collaboration, peace, and joyful discovery. He has seen firsthand the confidence and thoughtfulness that CMS nurtures in its students and understands the responsibility of preserving that mission for future generations.

Sara Schmidtke, President of the Creative Montessori Board of Directors, shared, “Thomas brings both professional expertise and a heartfelt connection to Creative Montessori School. As a former parent and seasoned independent school leader, he understands our mission deeply and is committed to strengthening the systems that support our teachers, students, and families. We are confident in his ability to lead CMS with clarity, stability, and care.”

Throughout the search process, Thomas demonstrated a clear understanding of what strong school leadership requires: inspiring and supporting students; ensuring faculty and staff have the systems they need to thrive; maintaining financial stability through healthy enrollment and thoughtful stewardship; and safeguarding our campus as a clean, safe, and nurturing environment. His background in enrollment leadership and community engagement positions him well to guide CMS into its next chapter.

Thomas will officially begin his role as Executive Director in June. The Board and school leadership will work closely with him to ensure a thoughtful and steady transition.

Please join us in warmly welcoming Thomas Goldsmith back to Creative Montessori School —this time in a new role of leadership and service. We look forward to partnering together to ensure Montessori education continues to flourish at CMS for years to come.
